Help Your Brother Along the Way
May 25, 2024 • Bill Cloud • Leviticus 25:1—26:2
The portion this week is called Behar “On the Mount”. The cycle of sacred seasons begun in previous portion; are continued in this portion. If the land belongs to God, we must conclude that it is but on loan to us in order to provide for our needs. Considering that we are formed from the dust of the earth, this life is not mine. It also is also on loan from the Creator, designed ultimately to perform His Will. Like the weekly Sabbath, the sabbatical year was to be a time that allowed for spiritual growth. A Faithful Priest
May 18, 2024 • Bill Cloud • Leviticus 21:1–4, Leviticus 21:11–15
The portion's name, emor, comes from the word that means “to speak.” This is one of the portions that compels us to discuss things we've discussed many times. Specifically, the priests were required to deny themselves more so than the Levites. Then there are these other stipulations placed upon the priests: very rigid standards. Aaron wasn't allowed to approach his dead sons or remove garments. In spite of the tragedy, as High Priest, he was required to continue in his service. April 6, 2024 • Bill Cloud • Leviticus 9—11
Called Sh’mini or “eighth” referring to the eighth day after Aaron and his sons had been inaugurated into the priesthood. Moses told Israel certain things had to be in order because He was to appear. The first 10 chapters are laws of the Sanctuary said the things that had to be done. The beginning of portion describes different offerings to be placed on altar. Keep the Fire Burning
March 30, 2024 • Bill Cloud • Leviticus 6:8
These instructions affected the entire nation of Israel but functioned as a manual for priests concerning sacrifices. The same sacrifices covered previously with additional details for priests. צו tzav is the Hebrew word that means “to command.” This is related to word מצוה mitzvah. Previous to this we see phrases like, “speak unto…” or “say to...” This word emphasizes the extreme importance in doing things the right way. This is protocol for how we are to approach a holy God. Though we don't offer animals, shouldn't think we can approach in our way. Tzav Leviticus 6:8 – 8:36 Keep the Fire Burning Join us for our Shabbat service with Bill Cloud and the Jacob's Tent Family! A Willing Sacrifice
March 23, 2024 • Bill Cloud • Leviticus 1:1—6:7
This portion begins the book of Leviticus. Oldest name is Torat Ha’Kohenim – Instructions for the priests. It focuses on function of the priesthood and duties of priestly nation, i.e. Israel and it gets into a lot of details about how things were to be done. ויקרא Vay’yikra is derived from the first word of the first verse in Hebrew and He called referring to God called Moses to Him to receive instruction. As this book begins, it reveals that the time had come for them to perform ministry that recognized He was among them. Planted by Rivers of Living Water
September 30, 2023 • Bill Cloud • Zechariah 14:16–18, Isaiah 2:2–3, Psalm 1:1–3, Philippians 4:8, Leviticus 23:33–43
During this time of year we are rehearsing for the time when the King of Glory returns with power and authority. A time when He will make all enemies His footstool and rules and reigns from Jerusalem forever and ever. We are commanded to rejoice during this time, not as a conditional suggestion but as a command. Regardless of how are lives look in whatever state, we are to rejoice during Sukkot and give special attention to our King. Those who come to honor our King during this time will get watered. Sukkot is connected with the life found in water. Those who are thirsty will find refreshment. Those who are hungry will be fed. In the days of the temple (during Sukkot) water was poured upon the alter to symbolize the presence coming forth from Jerusalem to all nations. The Living Water going forth is what He desires for us to grow, to flourish and to carry out what He has called us to do and accomplish. Yeshua said that every tree that doesn’t produce fruit will be cast into the fire. We don’t have to allow the things of this world to cause us to wither up and die. We have a source of life and is found within His presence. Shabbat shalom and Happy Sukkot! Join us live from the tent as we celebrate this first day in our season of joy! My Horn Is Exalted | Bill Cloud
September 16, 2023 • Bill Cloud • Genesis 21:12–13, 1 Samuel 2:1–10, Jeremiah 31:1–18, Leviticus 23:24, Genesis 21:1–3
Let’s consider that Yom Teruah is a memorial day — a day that we are commanded to blow the shofar, the horn. Some things we are commanded to do. Some things we are to remember to do. When God commands us to do certain things; God requires us to endure certain things. Tradition teaches us that Satan was allowed to test Job around this time. If He requires a certain behavior from us, He will remember us in the day of need. Even in the story of Hagar, when she and Ishmael were sent away. She cries out to God and He hears and acts on her behalf. Even though He knew what Ishmael would become, because he was Abrahams seed, God intervened. This ongoing theme is throughout the entire Word of God. How, if we who are called to do what we are commanded, He will remember those moments we acted on His behalf. Though it may have required great sacrifice during those seasons, He who calls you is faithful and will do it. Today, we sound the shofar. The horn represents a symbol of power and authority. Those things that you are still asking Him for, keep believing, keeping persevering and He will remember you. Join us for our Shabbat service with Bill Cloud and the Jacob's Tent Family! The Spartan Precedent | Danny Baker
June 14, 2023 • Danny Baker • Leviticus 22:20–22, 1 Corinthians 3:1–2, Ecclesiastes 4:12, 2 Corinthians 10:4–6, Romans 8:37–39
Some of us are visual learners. Sometimes, in our humanity, we have to have a physical frame of reference as a spiritual goal for us to achieve. That’s why I believe Yeshua used parables so much. An earthly example for our spirit man to grasp and work towards. The word tells us that we are more than conquerers through Him that loved us. In addition to that we as warriors are stronger together (Ecclesiastes 4:12). Spartans were a great physical example of this in history. The code they lived by, their resilience to obstacles in warfare were set apart. A great physical representation of perhaps, what our spirit man should look like, not just individually but more important, collectively as one. When Joshua and the Children of Israel operated as one with the Father, they were unstoppable. Giants fell, Walls of Jericho toppled and territory was taken back. We are lions, fierce and more than able to carry out the tasks that seem insurmountable. One day at a time. One foot in front of the other. One hand on the sword…..but as One. Don't Relinquish Your Inheritance
May 13, 2023 • Bill Cloud • Leviticus 25:1–4, Exodus 23:10–11, Genesis 15:7–8, Amos 9:13–15, 2 Timothy 3:1–5
“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness” (Psalm 24:1). The sh’mittah year is the seventh in a seven year cycle. The land is to rest and not be tilled or worked by anyone else during this time. As the Shabbat was to the people, so was this command for the land. Sabbatical year teaches that there is a direct connection between the people and the land. If God is concerned for the land then it matters to Him who dwells within it. The Father set up a covenant with Abraham regarding the land and with his descendants. Throughout the Word the Father is always beckoning His Children to return to what He has set aside for our inheritance as an “everlasting possession.” We are to hold tightly to this as if to never let go (achuzah). The “possessions” of what He has given us is to be passed down to future generations. Never should we consider releasing our inheritance to the vineyard of idolatry. Useless Chert or Useful Dirt?
May 6, 2023 • Bill Cloud • Mark 4:3–9, Hebrews 3:7–8, Matthew 11:4–6, Ephesians 4:14–16, Leviticus 21:1–4
This weeks portion Emor comes from the word (Amar) which means “to speak.” Certain restrictions are placed upon the priest in regard to their service in the Sanctuary. We must exercise discretion where our surroundings are concerned if we long to draw near to the Father. He is Holy, therefore we must be Holy. The closer we get to Him, the more self-denial increases. This is nothing new. If we are to follow Him, it will cost us everything. To most, this sounds unfair to the worlds standards but we do not operate according to their standards. In order for His seed to germinate within us and to take root as Holy individuals, we must make sure “the ground” is fertile. What we say, what we do and how we think effect everything in this walk. We have to be willing to pay the price to be in His Presence, no matter what that looks like. The standard by which we act upon and by the measure we act it out, will be returned to us.
