Help Your Brother Along the Way

May 25, 2024 • Bill Cloud • Leviticus 25:1—26:2

The portion this week is called Behar “On the Mount”. The cycle of sacred seasons begun in previous portion; are continued in this portion. If the land belongs to God, we must conclude that it is but on loan to us in order to provide for our needs. Considering that we are formed from the dust of the earth, this life is not mine. It also is also on loan from the Creator, designed ultimately to perform His Will. Like the weekly Sabbath, the sabbatical year was to be a time that allowed for spiritual growth. A Faithful Priest

May 18, 2024 • Bill Cloud • Leviticus 21:1–4, Leviticus 21:11–15

The portion's name, emor, comes from the word that means “to speak.” This is one of the portions that compels us to discuss things we've discussed many times. Specifically, the priests were required to deny themselves more so than the Levites. Then there are these other stipulations placed upon the priests: very rigid standards. Aaron wasn't allowed to approach his dead sons or remove garments. In spite of the tragedy, as High Priest, he was required to continue in his service. For Crying Out Cloud

May 4, 2024 • Jermey Capps

Jermey Caps discusses the Torah portion "After the Death," covering the Yom Kippur service, prohibition against eating blood, and laws concerning forbidden sexual relations. Jermey mentions the Yom Kippur narrative seems out of place and questions its position, speculating there may be a reason for the sequence leading into the laws of Holiness. Once The Door Is Shut

April 27, 2024 • Bill Cloud • Exodus 33:12—34:26

We are citizens of a Kingdom which cannot fail; admonished to serve God in a way that pleases Him. God will consume man-made institutions & philosophies unworthy to remain. What serves His purpose can withstand the consuming fire that is our God. It will be uncomfortable; it will purge the dross and purify in the process. That which remains is “brotherly love,” from the Greek term, philadelphia. Unleavened Bread is time when we are to empty ourselves of carnal tendencies. In this day and time, to prepare ourselves for the test that is surely coming. So that we will be able to stand in the day of adversity. A door is open for God's people to fulfill purpose; one day the door is shut. The Anxiety of Separation

April 13, 2024 • Bill Cloud

Previous to this portion, Scripture detailed laws pertaining to the priests and laws per- taining to food and those animals that goes into the body. Now, Torah addresses laws of purification pertaining to what emanates from the body: Child birth, Leprosy (tzarat) and other bodily secretions. What goes into a body is not necessarily as offensive as what comes out. what goes in can affect us outwardly, sometimes negatively. Keep the Fire Burning

March 30, 2024 • Bill Cloud • Leviticus 6:8

These instructions affected the entire nation of Israel but functioned as a manual for priests concerning sacrifices. The same sacrifices covered previously with additional details for priests. צו tzav is the Hebrew word that means “to command.” This is related to word מצוה mitzvah. Previous to this we see phrases like, “speak unto…” or “say to...” This word emphasizes the extreme importance in doing things the right way. This is protocol for how we are to approach a holy God. Though we don't offer animals, shouldn't think we can approach in our way. Tzav Leviticus 6:8 – 8:36 Keep the Fire Burning Join us for our Shabbat service with Bill Cloud and the Jacob's Tent Family! A Willing Sacrifice

March 23, 2024 • Bill Cloud • Leviticus 1:1—6:7

The book of Exodus began with Israel in bondage; it ends with Israel a free nation in the midst of constructing the tabernacle in which the presence of God would dwell. This portion begins with an accounting of all the materials that went into the building of the Sanctuary -- in great detail. Pekudei is translated here as "inventory." To See Beyond the Here and Now

March 9, 2024 • Bill Cloud • Exodus 35:1—38:20

Everyone knows that God doesn’t need our treasure; He wants our whole heart. Our contributions are not limited to monetary items; our gifts and our service. Consequently our treasure should be not be temporal things. If the people had a willing heart to give and to serve, they would be blessed with the Presence of the Almighty. When we do good toward our fellow man in obedience to God's instructions, He rewards us in this life; sometimes openly so that all will see the benefit of obedience. Righteous actions apparent to all are rewarded in way that is visible to all.  Vayechel Exodus 35:1–38:20 To See Beyond the Here and Now Join us for our Shabbat service with Bill Cloud and the Jacob's Tent Family! Committed to a Greater Cause

March 2, 2024 • Bill Cloud

God expects that we are to do something with what He has given us. The term ki tisa -- “when you take a census” -- is literally “when you elevate.” Contributing to a sacred cause “elevates” all of God’s people. When it come to functioning in purpose, granite that serves ts purpose is more valuable in the Kingdom than a diamond that doesn’t serve its purpose. ased on this, we should conclude that God gives us gifts/skills/talents/resources that are to be used to advance His purpose. Ki Tisa Exodus 30:11 – 34:35 Committed to a Greater Cause Join us for our Shabbat service with Bill Cloud and the Jacob's Tent Family!
