THINK before you speak... because God is listening. If a person makes a vow before the LORD, then He expects them to keep it. If we have pledged to follow the Messiah, then that is in a sense, a vow. We are expected to keep that pledge all the way. In this Torah Portion, we see the laws of when a woman makes a vow. These laws give us a wonderful picture of how the Creator designed the Godly order within marriage, and it is a reminder for us as His people to make sure that we help maintain that order. It is the responsibility of the man to step into his proper role of being head of the household. He should not be "lord of the manor," but rather, he should govern his household "in a manner that is pleasing to the LORD." Perhaps the reason Sarah called Abraham "lord," is because Abraham treated Sarah like a princess. Part of the vows made in marriage are that the husband and wife will function in their purpose... and because they have made a vow before the LORD, they are expected to keep it all the way.
