This portion begins with the culmination of events that were years in the making. Demonstrating how that, in an instant, one’s world can change. The Hebrew term ויגש vayigash, in the plain sense, means “to approach,” but it implies a meeting of two seemingly opposite forces. Judah, unaware that he is speaking with Joseph, gets into the Egyptians lord’s space which initiated a life-altering result. The point being, certain kinds of conflict can be constructive if it brings about life. Labor pains are stressful and noisy but the end result is new life. We may not understand some things that happen to us, but one day, perhaps when we least expect it, God will reveal Himself and His plan just as Joseph did. And in an instant, everything will change.
