Vayechel & Pekudei

March 18, 2023 • Bill Cloud • Exodus 38:21—40:38, Exodus 35:1—38:20

All who are gifted artisans among you shall come and make all that the Lord has commanded. - Exodus 35:10. In this week's portion we see the Father calling those of a willing heart to bring their offering before the Lord for the work of the tabernacle. Among those specifically, were Betzalel and Oholiav. The two chief artisans who were given the wisdom of how to build the mishkan and how the intricate details needed to look and operate. The details of the mishkan and its components teach principles that went beyond what was seen when looking at its furnishings. More specifically Betzalel (In the shadow of El) achieved a clarity of vision and an understanding of his mission. By following God’s pattern, he brought into the physical world God’s design, whereby others could “abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” There is a blessing in participating in God’s purpose. This connects the notion of “being assembled” (vayechel). God has a reason for assembling the people. Accepting His invitation to be part of the bigger picture will result in His blessings. The biggest blessing of all is His presence among us. Solomon had the same wisdom of Betzalel but by listening to women who served foreign gods, lost his way and his heart turned away from God and Truth. When God gives us abilities and talents He expects a return. By making an investment in us, we have certain responsibilities to be fruitful. He gives us the necessary tools needed to accomplish His will. He gave Betzalel wisdom. Regardless of who we are, we must remember that the wisest can be led astray by the voices of others. Let us not fall into the trap of Solomon. Let us be like Betzalel who persevered in the truth and faithfulness of the calling.
