What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? Maybe it means going to church on Sunday, reading your Bible, or even praying an occasional prayer before a meal. Perhaps it could mean doing various things that would qualify someone as “Christian.” However, this is not all Jesus had expected when He turned to His disciples saying: “Follow me.” Jesus’ words comprise a compelling yet challenging invitation to be with Him, learn from Him, and ultimately, become like Him and do as He did. We are to live in such a way that reflects the life He once lived; to selflessly share the love that He so earnestly expressed, and to actively pursue His kingdom while neglecting the desires and passions of this world.
