15. Ezra. In response to God fulfilling his promises, his people should repent, reform and ‘follow the Law of God’, or literally, ‘walk in the Law of God’ (Neh. 10:29). These two books, Ezra and Nehemiah, should be seen as one volume. They narrate the return of the exiles from Babylon in three different groups. One is lead by Zerubbabel, who begins to rebuild the temple. Another is lead by Nehemiah, who rebuilds the walls of Jerusalem. A third is lead by Ezra the scribe, who teaches God’s people the law and reestablishes the worship of God and Israel’s festivals.
