In this message from Acts 2:36–47, Pastor Jim walks through Peter’s powerful sermon at Pentecost and the life-changing response that followed. As Peter boldly proclaimed Jesus as Lord and Messiah, about 3,000 people were saved, demonstrating that salvation comes by grace alone, not by good works, and that believers can have confident assurance in Christ.
This passage reveals what happens when the gospel takes root in people’s hearts. The early church immediately devoted themselves to four foundational practices: the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer. Their community was marked by awe of God, sincere joy, radical generosity, and grace toward others. As they lived out their faith together, the Lord continued to add to their number daily.
Pastor Jim contrasts the vibrant joy of the early church with the pessimism and anger so common in today’s culture. Christians are called to reflect the joy of the Lord as our strength and to live as Spirit-filled people whose lives point others to Christ.
