Join us as we travel to Danville, Virginia to work alongside Grace and Main as they cultivate community with those experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, and food insecurity. This will be an opportunity to serve and an opportunity to learn. Most of our serving will happen in the robust community garden where we will help prepare beds for winter, improve walking paths with gravel, clear land, and plant fruit trees. We will also need a few folks to serve by preparing meals for all of us. We will learn by touring the various places where Grace and Main ministers, by observing the methods by which Grace and Main ministers, and by conversing with community leaders who have been served by and now serve through Grace and Main. Pastor John will also lead times of retreat and reflection during the trip.
The total cost of the trip will be $110. At least $55 will need to be paid at registration to reserve your spot. You will need to bring funds for meals while traveling up and traveling home. In order for everyone to have a good experience, we are limiting spots and are looking to take about 20 site volunteers and about 4 cooks for meal preparation. We will be staying at Camp Selah which has bunk houses for men and women and a full commercial kitchen for our use. We are planning on taking the church van, but we will need to know if you plan on driving separately. This trip is open to youth and adults.
If you are interested in learning more before you register, we will have an informational session following worship on Sunday, May 19. You may also contact anyone on the missions committee. Registration closes when spots are full or on August 12.
