A Sending Church
October 8, 2023 • Adam Mashni • Acts 12:25—13:3
What do a professional racecar driver, NBA point guard, and NFL quarterback all have in common? Sponsors. From Nike’s swoosh to Red Bull’s wings, the biggest stars rep the biggest brands. Stadiums are filled with the supersized logos and famous one-liners of the corporations that make these big-name athletes their millions. But what does all this have to do with Acts? Join us tomorrow as we turn our attention from the star players of the early church to the One behind it all. Don’t forget your foam finger!
Generational Sin: What Have You Done?
July 9, 2023 • Adam Mashni • Genesis 26:1–11
You’re probably familiar with the phrase, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” It illustrates that children’s thinking and behavior patterns are often inextricably linked to their parents. But have you noticed it is typically used only in the negative sense? That’s because our failures are usually far more glaring than our successes. As we reach the halfway point of our “What Have You Done” series in the book of Genesis, we’ll explore a topic that impacts everyone - generational sin - and note three change agents that can put us on a path of generational blessing instead.
C'mon My Soul.
April 30, 2023 • Adam Mashni • Psalm 42
This week we study a psalm that embodies life on the struggle bus. The psalmist longs to be at the Temple praising God as he has done before. But life has him somewhere else, in far more challenging circumstances, and he’s yearning for relief. Yet, we see a beautiful refrain where he turns, pauses, and begins coaching himself in the ways of God. When life gets tough, it can be hard to connect with God. But Psalm 42 provides prayer tools to help us turn our eyes upward when spiraling down.
Fame & Opposition
November 20, 2022 • Adam Mashni • Matthew 9:27–34
Desperation is a great motivator! We’ll try almost anything if we’re running out of options. This week, desperate people come to Jesus, sometimes bringing their friends. As Jesus heals and drives out demons, his fame grows. People are amazed, and some even believe, but not everyone is happy about it. These varied responses lead to critical questions about what belief accomplishes in us.
The Striving of Productivism
August 28, 2022 • Adam Mashni • Ecclesiastes 3:1–11
Have you ever opened the app store for your preferred computer or phone platform and looked for productivity apps? You probably didn’t have to look far! There are dozens of calendars, to-do lists, time blockers, habit trackers, note takers, mind mappers, text editors, file organizers, and focus tools. All pledge to make you more efficient, productive, and valuable. But is that an empty promise? In this week’s passage of Ecclesiastes, the Teacher tells us there’s a time for productivity. But a deeper look reveals a profound truth about all of our work under the sun.
