**Read Luke 22:7-23**

7Then the Day of Unleavened Bread came when the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover." 9"Where do you want us to prepare it?" they asked him. 10 "Listen," he said to them, "when you've entered the city, a man carrying a water jug will meet you. Follow him into the house he enters. 11Tell the owner of the house, 'The Teacher asks you, "Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover with my disciples?"' 12Then he will show you a large, furnished room upstairs. Make the preparations there." 13So they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. 14When the hour came, he reclined at the table, and the apostles with him. 15Then he said to them, "I have fervently desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God." 17Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks, he said, "Take this and share it among yourselves. 18For I tell you, from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes." 19And he took bread, gave thanks, broke it, gave it to them, and said, "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." 20In the same way he also took the cup after supper and said, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. 21But look, the hand of the one betraying me is at the table with me. 22For the Son of Man will go away as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!" 23So they began to argue among themselves which of them it could be who was going to do it.

**Reflect**

Imagine you are a teacher about to teach your final lesson to your students ever. What would you talk about? What's most important, of course! That's the situation we find Jesus in when we come to that final night before He would go to the cross. As a teacher, He knew He had one final lesson to leave with His disciples and He would save the most important lessons for the end—and they were both about one thing: love.

One of those lessons happens as He washes His disciples' feet. Rather than being served on His final night, Jesus chooses to serve the disciples. Why? To show us what it truly means to love one another. Loving others means putting them first and that's exactly what Jesus was showing His disciples as He washed their feet. Before the night is over, Jesus commands His disciples to do the same thing and put others first even once He is gone.

That's not the only lesson, however! Jesus not only wants us to know what it means for us to love one another but also to know how much He loves us. As Jesus gives the bread and the wine to His disciples in this final supper, He shares with them that He is giving them Himself in the meal—they are receiving His body and His blood. He is making the ultimate sacrifice for others! Every time we celebrate the Lord's Supper, Jesus continues to show us what love truly looks like as He gives us Himself. Rather than being served, He serves us!
