Confirmation is a two-year program, recommended for 7th and 8th graders. Confirmation is a rite of the church that is preceded by a time of instruction in God’s Word and Lutheran doctrine. It is a systematic way to help baptized children of God grow in their faith and knowledge of God, and to identify more closely with the doctrine we live by here at St John’s.
Confirmation meets on Wednesday nights from 5-6 pm. Students who decide to stay for Youth Group at 6:30 will be a part of a rotating group that provides dinner for each other. Confirmation and Youth Group nights will meet on 1/7, 1/14, 1/21, 1/28, 2/4, 2/11, 2/18, 2/25, 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, and 3/25. Confirmation only will meet on 3/25 for the end-of-year test.
Students are also required to attend church regularly, volunteer, and take sermon notes. There is a $60 cost to cover supplies and curriculum. Click "register now" to sign your student up for Confirmation.
Confirmation is not mentioned in Scripture. It is therefore not commanded by God like the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. However, confirmation was seen early on by the Church as an important rite that helped solidify the relationship of the disciples and Jesus Christ. This is the next step where parents guide their children from baptism to children’s church, and into a more mature faith. The parents then help their child grow in their faith and confirm it as their own through this time of teaching. Parents guide and instruct them through this process to get them more comfortable in saying, “This is what I believe,” rather than “This is what I was always taught.” St John’s has developed this program to aid parents in making disciples.
