In this sermon we will take time to consider the uniqueness of the Psalms and why God put an inspired hymnal in the Bible. We will also do a quick overview the entire book of Psalms and do a more specific overview Psalm 145 itself. We learn about the ten major areas of theology and six different ways of studying theology, so that we can better study our Bibles in general and Psalm 145 in specific.

In the third part of our introduction to Psa. 145, we learn that if we are not careful, we can think we are studying the Bible when we are not. We are also reminded to beware of false teachers and to use discernment in who we receive spiritual instruction from. Finally, we are reminded, as we study God’s attributes, that God is not a man, but an infinite eternal being.

The Desirous Will of God

This sermon reviews what was previously learned about the attribute of God’s sovereignty and then adds to it another aspect of God’s sovereignty, His desirous will. The desirous will of God is compared to His absolute, declarative, or secret will, unraveling many mysteries people have about God’s sovereignty.

The Doctrine of Concurrence

In this sermon we continue to look at another aspect of God’s sovereignty. God being absolutely sovereign rules the universe by providence. One aspect of providence is the doctrine of concurrence, which teaches that God is able to accomplish His perfect will, while at the same time giving Satan, Demons, Men, and Holy angels the ability to exercise their own will and even to rebel against God’s commands.

In this sermon we continue to look at the attributes of God from Psalm 145, specifically the attribute of God’s sovereignty and more specific still, God’s providence which is the means by which God brings about His perfect will for all creation to get himself the most glory and to do good to those who love Him. The providence of God is one of the most comforting doctrines in all of the Bible.
