“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight” Ephesians 1:4 (NIV).

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” Colossians 3:12 (NIV).

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” Ephesians 2:10 (NIV).

2025 was a year of choices, changes, and challenges. After having our daughter, Davie, in 2024 our family took some time to reevaluate what a healthy heart, home and pace looked like for us. In February of 2025, Josh and I made the tough choice to step away from our role as Bridge Kids Pastors. This was such a difficult decision for many reasons. One of the reasons I struggled with most was identity. Over the past seven years I had defined my worth and sense of self as “Ms. Maggie, the Kids Pastor” instead of “Maggie, a follower of Jesus and child of God.” My sense of purpose was so wrapped up in making sure things went well on Sundays and for the kids and families within our church, that I forgot to stop and focus on a deeper relationship with the Lord. Throughout the last ten months I have been able to slow down and dive deeper in my relationship with Jesus, focusing on who it is He says I am rather than the titles I held tightly to.

I’m sure I’m not the only one out there that struggles with identity from time to time. It’s not hard to do when there are titles all around us - mom, dad, daughter, son, grandparent, friend, teacher, pastor, director, manager, etc. This list could go on forever. While each title comes with certain responsibilities and often are titles we want to hold, they can also carry a lot of pressure. Thankfully, there is one title we can all carry that provides us with grace, forgiveness, joy and love. We can all carry the title of believer if we so choose. Being a believer sets us free and connects us to Jesus in the most beautiful way.

It is my hope as you enter 2026 you will focus on becoming more connected to the Father and finding your identity in Him. Take a moment and remind yourself of the titles God has given you - forgiven, beloved, chosen, a masterpiece just to name a few. When the earthly titles of this world get heavy or overwhelming remember that God has called you His and can give you all you need.

Dear Lord, I pray that this year you will help me to focus on who it is you say I am. I pray that you will help me grow closer to you and deepen my relationship with you. I ask that on the tough days you help me to remember that I am yours and you have called me to so much more. Amen.
