New York Mission Trip

November 29 - December 3, 2023

We have an excellent opportunity for you to go on a mission with our upcoming mission trip to New York City. This trip will be geared toward serving Redemption Church, a 5-year-old church plant in the Red Hook neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY. Pastor Edwin Pacheco will help to facilitate the time in NYC from November 29th - December 3rd to assist the church in serving the Red Hook community. Team: 12 Cost: $750 Dates: Nov 29 - Dec 3rd Deposit due by Aug 1st: $300 Remaining Deposit due by Nov 1st: $450 The first to grab a spot by registering is chosen to go! Rising 5th grade & up with a parent are welcome to join Tentative Schedule: Wednesday: - Travel day to NYC. - Fly from GSP into New York City and steel into the hotel. Thursday: - Meet at the community school for food distribution. - Walk through the community to help understand the context of where the team will be serving. Friday: - Meet at the school in the morning to assist teachers and staff. - Participate in the school's staff appreciation lunch. - Work to organize coats for the coat drive. Saturday: - Set up for the coat drive that will take place Saturday morning. - Work the Coats For The City event. Sunday: - Help set up for church in the school building. - Volunteer in various ways to serve the church on Sunday mornings. - Travel back to Greenville. Recommended reading and information for those interested in the trip. Books: The Power of Proximity, Urban Apologetics by Chris Brooks. Both of those books help with understanding poverty in the urban setting ahead of teams arriving. Facts: Be aware of disparities in the neighborhood. There is a great deal of poverty and growing gentrification. The low-income families in Red Hook are living on around 24k while high-income families are making around 144k.
