“To say that the matter of this universe came into existence accidentally is about the same probability as a whirlwind or hurricane whirling through a junkyard and accidentally producing a fully functioning Boeing 747.”Sir" - Fredrick Hoyle

“The universe can and will create itself from nothing…Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist.” - Stephen Hawking in The Grand Design

- One of the postulates of creation is where there is design, there must be a Designer.

- A cardinal rule of biblical interpretation is when a word like ‘yom’ [a word that can have a wide range of meanings] appears in a text, the context must determine the word’s meaning.

- Every place in Scripture that the word ‘yom’ or day is used with a designating number, it is a 24-hour day.

A Tale of Two Brothers

May 5, 2024

i. God Gives Two Sons (vs. 1-2) Two ii. Sons bring Offerings to God (vs. 3-7) - Cain brought something he had while Abel brought the best that he had. God’s Rejection of Cain’s offering reveals: 1. There was a deficiency in the gift. 2. There was a flaw in the intention of the giver "By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts." - Hebrews 11:4 John Calvin wrote: “It is not to be doubted, that Cain conducted himself as hypocrites are accustomed to do; namely, that he wished to appease God, as one discharging a debt, by external sacrifices, without the least intention of dedicating himself to God.” - You will either master sin or sin will master you. ---- CCLI number available upon request, senior video license code: BMP8RURQ9NRYULDU from http://bensound.com/royalty-free-music

Genesis 3:16-24 1. God Pronounces the Consequences (vs. 16-19) A. Eve’s consequences I. Experience Pain in Childbirth II. Exert Power in Marriage B. Adam’s consequences I. Difficulty in his work II. Death in his future 2. God Provides the Covering (vs. 20-24) Two views on gender-roles: 1. Egalitarianism claims men and women are equal, therefore there are no gender-based role distinctions because Christ overcame the curse. 2. Complementarians claim that men and women are equal, however God has established gender-based role distinctions in creation.
