I. God’s Covenant Promises Reaffirmed to Abram – Despite His Failures (vs. 1-8)

II. Circumcision Demanded as the Sign of the Covenant (vs. 9-14)

- Circumcision was not the means of his salvation but the mark of his separation as a man in covenant relationship with God.

- Have your external habits gradually degenerated into empty religious observances?

- Internal faith needs to manifest itself in external obedience.

“For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.” - Romans 2:28-29

“And in Him [meaning Jesus] you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of flesh by the circumcision of Christ.” - Colossians 2:11

Five Signs of a Changed Heart:

1. Genuine love for God

2. Desire for God

3. Sensitivity to sin in your life

4. Love in your heart for fellow Christians

5. Passion to see God glorified in the world
