The book of Acts in the New Testament is a book of history. Sometimes this book is called the “Acts of the Apostles.” The apostles were Jesus’ special helpers. This book tells what these men did after Jesus went back to heaven.
Acts is a very important book for Christians to read and study. This book shows us how people became Christians and how the church grew. Learning about these early Christians will help us know what God wants us to do today.
The book of Acts begins by telling us that Jesus was with His followers for forty days after His resurrection. During that time He told them about God’s kingdom. Acts 1:4 tells us the news that Jesus shared with His followers. “One time when Jesus was eating with them, he told them not to leave Jerusalem. He said, ‘Wait here until you receive what the Father promised to send. Remember, I told you about it before.’”
What did Jesus promise to send? He promised to send God’s Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit led Jesus’ followers as they shared the Good News with the world.
That promise is for us, too. The Holy Spirit is our helper, comforter and encourager. Praise God for this wonderful promise!
