Outfit and Make Up Tips

I have a story related to advice for fashion and makeup. First, relating to fashion. You know that interpreters’ clothes must be plain, black and boring. This is NOT that! This is not what you should wear as an interpreter. I’d like to share story. You know most times interpreters work in church for weddings and funerals. It so happened that I had a friend whose grandfather died and I interpreted for the funeral. Before I went, I put my makeup on and I saw that I had purple mascara. I thought COOL! I’ll use that today. So I put it on, and I looked very pretty. It was not loud purple, very subtle, very difficult to see. It was a proper makeup job. I went to the funeral and I started to interpret. I realized something while I was there, that her grandfather who had died was the same age as my grandfather who was still alive. There were many similarities between our grandfathers. They’re both part of the military and had a 21 gun salute. I started thinking about my grandfather and became quite emotional and tears started welling up. I thought, that’s okay, no big a deal I can still interpret. But then, all of a sudden, the makeup started getting in my eyes and my eyes started filling with tears much worse and tears are streaming down my face while I was trying to interpret. The Deaf person said, “Hey, hey, something’s wrong, something’s wrong!” I was still trying to interpret and see at the same time. They said, “Purple tears! Purple tears!” I was thinking, “What are you talking about?” then they gave me a Kleenex and I wiped my face. Seriously? The whole thing was covered with purple! I wiped my face. I was quite embarrassed and continued interpreting. So that’s my second bit of advice, if you do use mascara, use waterproof mascara. You will save you a lot of embarrassment in the future. Cheers!
