Don't Resist Feedback

Greetings! Interpreters! I am exciting that you are here with us! I have something I wanted to share some tips that concerns me based on my previous experiences that I had encountered. During Church I watched interpreters interpret messages and there are times I see the messages interpreted was not clear or using “wrong signs/meaning of the sign”. I would approach later to the interpreter to give a constructive feedback on what I was experiencing or saw but instead the interpreter got very defensive, said “I know what to do” and would quote their type of work such as I am an ASL instructor. I felt a huge wall built up between us! I see the problem here I would strongly suggest you be open/friendly and have a good dialogue about this and please do ask us why do we view this a problem or not clear or meaning or ask us what should we sign to make it clear? With our feedback you never know this would help your interpreting skills/ASL vocabulary/meanings improve! Suggest you try to be more pleasant and cheerful in the process of learning/improving in what you do as an interpreter!
