The first four books of the New Testament are often called “Gospels.” The word “Gospel” means “Good News.” What is the Good News in these four books? The Good News is that God sent Jesus to earth to die for our sins.
The books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John tell us about Jesus’ life on earth. Each author wrote his book for a different reason. Matthew wrote to tell Jewish people about Jesus. Mark wrote to non-Jews. Luke wrote so that people would know the facts about Jesus’ life and work. John wrote to show Jewish people that Jesus is truly God’s Son.
If we read and study the Gospel books, we will want to follow and obey Jesus. Then we will be excited to share the Good News about Jesus with other people. In Mark 16:15, Jesus told His followers to tell others about Him. “He said to them, ‘Go everywhere in the world. Tell the Good News to everyone.’”
Jesus’ message is for you and me today, too! Jesus wants us to tell other people about Him every day of our lives. It doesn’t matter if we tell our friends at home or if we travel to a foreign country.
Think about some people you know who need to learn about Jesus. Share the Good News with them today!
