Excuses

May 5

Jo Krueger

Moses grew up in Egypt. He saw that Pharaoh treated the Israelites badly and forced them to work as slaves. One time Moses saw an Egyptian beating an Israelite. Moses killed the Egyptian and buried his body. Then Moses was afraid that Pharaoh would find out what happened. So Moses ran away to the land of Midian.

While Moses was living in Midian, he got married and took care of his father-in-law’s sheep. One day Moses saw a bush that was burning without being destroyed. God called out to Moses from the bush. God told Moses that He wanted him to help the Israelites in Egypt.

Moses answered God with an excuse. He said that he was not a great man. Moses said he didn’t think he could go to Pharaoh and help free the Israelites. In Exodus 3:12 we find God’s response to Moses. “God said, ‘You can do it because I will be with you. This will be the proof that I am sending you: After you lead the people out of Egypt, you will come and worship me on this mountain.’”

Sometimes we make excuses when God wants us to do something for Him. We think that we are not qualified or not smart enough. When God wants us to serve Him, He will be with us — just like He was with Moses!
