The book of Acts was written by a man named Luke. Here is how Luke begins this book in Acts 1:1-2. “Dear Theophilus, The first book I wrote was about everything Jesus did and taught from the beginning until the day he was carried up into heaven. Before he went, he talked to the apostles he had chosen. With the help of the Holy Spirit, he told them what they should do.”

The first book that Luke wrote to Theophilus was the Gospel book of Luke. In that book, Luke shared the story of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. Then Luke wrote the book of Acts to explain what happened after Jesus left the earth.

Colossians 1:4 tells us that Luke was a doctor. He was also Paul’s good friend. Luke traveled with Paul as he preached around the world. In some sections of the book of Acts, Luke uses the word “we.” This shows us that Luke was with Paul when those events occurred. That means that we have Luke’s eyewitness account of what happened to Paul.

Luke served God by helping Paul in his travels. God gives each one of us opportunities to serve Him, too. Maybe our service for God will not be as exciting as Luke’s journey with Paul, but God will bless us no matter how we serve Him.
