Jesus's Birth (1)

January 11

January 11, 2019 • Dale Erickson

Today and for the next few days, we will look at what the New Testament tells us about Jesus’ birth. Each day we will learn about the people who were part of this wonderful story. Today we will talk about God’s Son, Jesus.

Jesus is the most important character in this story. The Old Testament prophets said that Jesus would be born someday. The angels announced His birth to the shepherds. Both rich and poor people worshiped Jesus.

An angel came to Joseph and told him that Mary would give birth to a special baby. In Matthew 1:21, the angel told Joseph about the baby’s name. “She will give birth to a son. You will name him Jesus. Give him that name because he will save his people from their sins.” Jesus’ name tells us why He came to earth — to save us from the punishment for our sins.

Many religions are just a set of rules. But we need more than rules. We need someone who was willing to die for us. Jesus is that person. Without Jesus, we have no hope of eternal life with God.

It is good for us to remember the story about Jesus’ birth all year long. Every day we should praise His name!
