Common Things

May 7

Naomi Wiederkehr

It is interesting to read the Bible and see how God often used common things to accomplish His plan. God used David’s sling to defeat a giant and a feeding box to be the bed for baby Jesus. God used a star to lead the wise men to Bethlehem and five small barley loaves and two fish to feed more than 5000 people.

Throughout Moses’ life, God used one common thing to show His power to people — Moses’ walking stick. When God called Moses to go back to Egypt, Moses was not sure if the Israelites would follow him. God told Moses to throw his walking stick on the ground. When Moses did this, it became a snake. God told Moses to grab the snake. When Moses did this, the snake became a walking stick again. Exodus 4:5 tells us what God told Moses. “Then God said, ‘Use your stick in this way, and the people will believe that you saw the Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’”

God used Moses and his walking stick. And He can use you and the common things you have to bring praise and honor to Him. Ask God to use you and your possessions to reach out to people who need to know about Jesus.
