New Testament

January 1

January 1, 2019 • Jo Krueger

The Bible is divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament. All of the devotions for January through April are about people and events from the New Testament books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

There are three very important reasons why Christians should read and study the New Testament. First, the New Testament tells us about Jesus’ life on earth, His death and resurrection. Second, we can learn from the New Testament how to become a Christian. Third, the New Testament shows us how to grow as a Christian.

When we studied the Old Testament, we learned about God’s people, the Israelites. In our study through the New Testament, we will see how God worked through those people to prepare the world for Jesus’ coming. The Old Testament has many prophecies about Jesus. In the New Testament we can learn that those prophecies really happened.

The New Testament is filled with Jesus’ message for the world. We can find Jesus’ message in Matthew 4:17. “From that time Jesus began to tell people his message: ‘Change your hearts and lives, because God’s kingdom is now very near.’” Change your heart and life and follow Jesus today!
