Father/Son Man Camp

April 12, 1:00pm - April 13, 2024 2:00pm

Man Camp begins Friday anytime in the afternoon. Bring a brown bag dinner or if you want to cook there will be a campfire for hotdogs if you desire and a charcoal grill available if your tastes run to higher class cuisine like steaks. Entirely up to you. We will provide breakfast and lunch Saturday. There will  be coffee available  for those that require it.

On Friday night after a few songs, a devotional time and a US Flag retirement ceremony we will enjoy an evening of fellowship! Everyone will campout in the field, so bring whatever camping gear is appropriate for the weather. If you desire to use a hammock the loggers did leave enough trees to manage to sting a few of those up although choices are a bit slim.

Saturday morning after breakfast we will have a safety orientation for those that want to shoot 22 at our range we set up. There are strict rules regarding this and a father must be within arm's reach of the son shooting. If your son has a pellet or BB gun feel free to bring it for him to use. I will have several 22 rifles available for use. Fathers are encouraged work with their boys coaching them but absolutely are required to be immediately behind their son while he is shooting any weapon. There will be someone assigned as range officer who will control the line. We might have some clays to toss if we can get our hands on a thrower. We will provide the clays and as many shotgun shells as we can afford or feel like is necessary. Mostly the adults and bigger boys participate with this but in the past some of the smaller kids have surprised us with their efficiency with a shotgun! Feel free to bring mountain bikes if you would like but only groups of boys with a father or two along will be allowed to ride very far. Lots of flat hard dirt roads are there as well as hills that will wear you out if you choose to take them on.

This year I am thinking about taking the boys on a nature hike along the parts of Burnt Corn Creek we can access. I am hoping to locate a beaver dam to show. This would be something most of them have not seen. If we find one that spans Burnt Corn Creek it will be a big one! The goal is to do a little compass work with them while on the hike and possibly find them all a good straight hiking stick they can bring home to embellish or personalize. I have never lost a camper yet and don't plan to change that this year!
