Engaging the Ten Commandments
Many of us may have an aversion to the very word “commandment.” We tend to think that between us and a life of freedom … lies those who impose rules to control us…including God. The truth is that we are so unclear about who we really are…that we can’t grasp that the nature of these “commands” is a declaration of freedom…freedom to flourish. What we discover is that these are not arbitrary moral rules…but rather God declaring that there is an unchanging reality to be aligned with. We may tend to think of these as rule that we can break…but in truth, like the “law of gravity” it is we who will be broken by their unchanging nature. Like the unchanging nature of a compass in revealing that despite how disoriented our sense of direction is, there is a “true north” and a way home where we can live and flourish. Come… engage afresh these ten unchanging truths.
