The Uncontainable New

January 4, 2015 • Jeff Lyle

Everybody desires progress. Very few desire change. Christians long for revival. Very few will embrace the brokenness that necessarily precedes revival. Jesus Christ did not come to patch up Judaism or tweak the Old Covenant. Jesus Christ was not interested in endorsing the tradition of His day. Jesus Christ came as a revolutionary with a radical purpose to replace the Old with the New. In this message we will take a penetrating look at what Jesus meant when He declared that His new wine must be placed in new wineskins. His metaphor was intentional so our learning needs to be disciplined as we explore what it means for us to experience the fullness of what Jesus Christ is offering to those who bear His name.

Determination's Payday

For those who rest securely in the doctrine of God’s sovereignty there is not much dialogue concerning human effort or committed determination. We understand rightly that God’s promises will always come to pass. Where many of us struggle, however, is within the process of how God brings to fruition what He has promised. Sometimes God gives a clear to word to His children…and then makes them wait for it. Sometimes that waiting lasts for very long periods of time. Will we be as determined to receive the promise at the end of our waiting as we were in the beginning? This message teaches us much from the life of Caleb, a man who was forced to wait more than four decades to inherit the promise of God. In the end, Caleb was full of fire and zeal as he ascended to the top of the mountain that had his name on it.

Sacred Supply

Most of the time when we consider the intersection of our Christianity and our finances we end up wondering just how much God wants from us. This is the default position of many of those who follow Jesus. The better question falls in the realm of what God wants FOR US, not from us. God has no need of our money, therefore His desire for us to sacrifice for His Kingdom is an issue we should consider from the angle of blessing to us, not burden upon us. This message serves as encouragement to all Christians about our giving. Mixing humor, scriptural truth and practical insights from his own journey in this area, Jeff Lyle helps us to consider our ways and to anticipate intimacy with God through the activity of financial sacrifice in the Kingdom.
