A Morgue with a Steeple

September 10, 2017 • Dr. Danny Lovett

This Sunday we will be looking at the Church at Sardis which was called the Dead Church from Revelation 3. Christ designates Himself as the One who operates the churches through the ministers of the churches by the seven-fold ministry of the Holy Spirit. Christ's relationship to the church follows a simple principle: The Church works by the power of the Holy Spirit through the leadership in the church. Christ wanted the church at Sardis to know that He wanted to control the church by the effectual working of the Holy Spirit. Zechariah 4:6 provides the key. God says "Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit " says the Lord. Sardis was operating without the Spirit. There was plenty of human activity because Revelation 3:1 says "I know thy works" They were an active and organized church, but the missing ingredient was the Holy Spirit. Consequently no matter what they did, it was to no avail, they were dead. Christ reminded them that the Holy Spirit needed to be in control of the leadership. This Sunday we will heed this warning to keep us from becoming a dead church.

When God makes all things new

March 25, 2018 • Dr. Danny Lovett

Revelation 21 is our text this week. When we begin to speak of eternal matters, we have entered a realm where we have difficulties getting our heads wrapped around this topic. Our mortal minds can’t begin to comprehend an existence that is eternal and perfect. We are so tied to time and accustomed to the concerns of this present life that we really can’t even imagine what heaven will be like. All we can do is read our Bibles, believe what God says about heaven, and rejoice in what awaits us, even though we can’t possibly grasp it all now. The title of the message for Sunday is When God Makes All Things New.

The Millenium

Some 250 years ago a man name Isaac Watts wrote a hymn based on Psalm 98 called “Joy to the World.” We sing this hymn at Christmas to celebrate Christ’s first coming. It's a favorite Christmas song, but the song is really about Christ's second coming. "He rules the world with truth and grace..." Watts wrote the hymn to celebrate the Kingship of Christ over all the earth, as the words indicate. This Sunday we will see what the Millennium means to us.
