Living the Risen Life

Talk is Cheap

July 5, 2015 • Dr. Danny Lovett

Never underestimate the power of your speech. A judge says a few words, and a man's life is saved or condemned. A doctor speaks a few words, and a patient either rejoices ecstatically or gives up in despair. Whether the communication is oral or written, there is great power in words. The power of speech is a gift of God, and it must be used the way God meant it to be used. The tongue has the power to direct, the power to destroy, the power to delight. The tongue is but a little member in our bodies, but it can accomplish great things for good or for bad. This Sunday we will finish our study in Colossians by looking at four important ministries of speech. Don't miss this life changing truth.

Christians Should be Alive and Alert

June 14, 2015 • Dr. Danny Lovett

In the Christian life, we never stand still. We either go forward or gradually slip backward. "Let us go on to maturity!" is the call we must obey (Hebrews 6:1). The Christian who is not making spiritual progress is an open target for the enemy to attack and destroy. While Jesus wants to give us an overflowing, abundant life, Satan has come to kill and destroy (John 10:10). Satan is a liar (John 8:44) and by his deception, he leads believers down the wrong path. It is important that we stay alert, exercise spiritual discernment, and that we continue to grow in our knowledge of spiritual truth. Don't miss this Sunday as we dive into chapter two of Colossians and explore how we can be Alive and Alert in Christ.

Possessing Confidence and Assurance

June 7, 2015 • Dr. Danny Lovett

You will never be any better, wiser, or happier than the thoughts that influence you. You might say "Pastor Danny, I can't help it, these thoughts just come into my mind." But, we can help it! "The weapons we fight with have divine power to demolish strongholds, we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ" (2Corinthians 10:5). A stronghold is a thought pattern that controls you. It could be fear, greed, inferiority, lust, etc. It is a "stronghold" because it holds you strongly in its grip. How do we break that grip? This Sunday we will be looking at Colossians 2:2-7, which will give us understanding on how to break these strongholds by training our minds. God's word teaches us how to do this. Don't miss this life changing truth.

Paul's Burden for the Church

May 31, 2015 • Dr. Danny Lovett

This Sunday we will be looking at Paul's Burden for The Church. The reason Paul loved the church with such intensity and devotion was because of the deep love that he had for Christ. II Corinthians 5:14 says that "the love of Christ compels", motivates me. When you love the Lord, you love those that He loves. It was this motivation that made Paul purify his life, preach with power, act with sympathy, and apply his mind to the things of God. These traits were simply by-products of his deep love for Christ and His church. Let me just say to all of us, as Christians, we will never serve God well with any kind of motivation other than outright and total love for the church. It's absolutely necessary! The things Paul wanted the Colossians to experience are not just for the Colossian church, but for every church, and every Christian. Don't miss these important truths that can make us the church God wants us to be.

Christ in You

May 17, 2015 • Dr. Danny Lovett

The Bible teaches that man by nature is "dead in trespasses and sins" (Ephesians 2:1). In other words, he is empty of that divine element which makes him alive to God. This fact can be true of any man or woman, regardless of education, cultural or even religious practices. God's answer to this basic deficiency is... Christ in you! This Sunday, as we continue our study in Colossians, we will look at what it means for Christ to live in us.

The Great Convictions of a Great Christian - Part 2

April 26, 2015 • Dr. Danny Lovett

Life has but one great goal for the Christian, and that is to find God’s will for their life and do it. In Colossians, Paul’s life work, his profession, was exactly what God wanted him to do. He followed the will of God for his life. Paul did not choose his life’s work, for he did not want to make a mistake. He did not want to waste his life. To Paul, there was but one work or profession: the job God wanted him to do. The profession he wanted did not matter; only God’s will for his life mattered. There is only one profession for any believer: the work God wants him to do. God has put every believer upon earth for a specific task. Jesus says “If any man will do his will, he shall know the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether it be of man. (John 7:17). Don’t miss this Sunday as we look at The Great Pillars of The Christian Life, as we continue our study in Colossians.

The Great Convictions of a Great Christian - Part 1

April 19, 2015 • Dr. Danny Lovett

When we study Paul’s epistles, we see that each letter has a dominant theme. In Romans, the theme is justification by faith. In Ephesians, it is the mystery of Christ and his church. In Philippians, he focuses on the joy which Christ brings. In Colossians, it is the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ as the Head of all creation and the church. There is no book in the New Testament which presents such a comprehensive picture of the fullness of Christ. There is no writing better-equipped to draw us upward than the book of Colossians. This Sunday, the title of the message is “The Great Convictions of a Great Christian”.
