The Uncomfortable Truth About God's Authority

October 15, 2023 • Brannen Padgett • Matthew 8:18–22

Have you ever struggled with submitting to authority? Whether it's a boss at work or a government official, there can be a resistance within us to yielding to someone else's commands. The same can be said when it comes to God's authority. We often only want to recognize the aspects of God's authority that benefit us, while ignoring the uncomfortable areas that force us to change.  In Matthew 8:18-22, Jesus reminds us that He is Lord over all, even over our personal lives. As we study the Bible, we begin to understand that Jesus is not just our Savior, but also our Lord. To fully surrender to Him means submitting to His authority in every area of our lives.  However, our sinful nature and the world's influence has led us to reject any kind of authority. This has even seeped into the church, causing us to reduce Jesus to only our Savior, forgetting that He is also our Lord.  As believers, we must learn to submit to God's Word and to other believers when necessary. This may mean giving up certain areas of our lives that we have been holding onto. But as we do so, we will begin to experience the true freedom and joy that comes from living under the authority of Christ.  Join us as we dive deeper into the uncomfortable truth about God's authority and learn how we can surrender our lives to Him.

The Unfolding Authority of Jesus

October 8, 2023 • Austin Nesvacil • Matthew 8:1–17, Matthew 9:27–31

In this inspiring and thought-provoking message, we delve into Matthew 8:1-17, where Jesus demonstrates his authority over sickness and disease. As we journey through the next few chapters, we unravel the facets of Jesus' authority in conquering nature, sin, supernatural forces, demonic influence, and even death. The reality of suffering is one of the greatest challenges in the world, causing some to doubt the power and goodness of God. However, for those who believe in the Bible's promises, we confess and affirm that our God is a healer. But when illness and affliction come close to us, it can be difficult to ask for healing and trust in God's process.  Why do we struggle with the authority of Jesus? This message explores the reasons and offers a valuable perspective that empowers us to say, "If You [Jesus] will, You can.... but if You don’t, I trust."  The beauty of our faith is that we not only believe God can heal us now, but that he will heal us forever. This is made possible through our Savior Jesus, who has all authority and power. He laid down his life for us, died in our place, but rose again, giving us hope for resurrection and eternal healing. So, if you or someone you know is struggling with sickness or disease, this message is a must-watch. It will give you strength, courage, and a firm belief in the unfailing authority of Jesus Christ.
