Ice Breakers

Breaking the Ice

June 9, 2013 • Chris Edmondson, Dave Thompson • Colossians 4:3–6

Every relational connection in our life is built on conversations. The deeper the conversation, the deeper the relationship. In Colossians, Paul suggested that we leverage this approach beyond our marriage, friendships, and parenting, by bringing this principle into our interactions with everyone—including those who don't believe what we believe. This is how Christians can be wise in the way you act toward outsiders. In this message, Chris & Dave unpack Paul's suggestion to embrace the journey of conversation.

Leverage Relationships

Studies show that 85% of all Christians sever relationships with outsiders after a year and a half. Somehow, we have bought into the lie that to follow Jesus, we have to sever relationships. But nowhere in the Bible does it say for us to sever relationships with those who need God. As Christians, many times it’s easier to sever relationships with people from our past. Investing in relationships with those outside the faith is messy and difficult. But God never calls us to ease and comfort, and Jesus is always drawn towards the messes. With more people open and searching spiritually, are we willing to invest in other people's lives by spending time with them and start to dialogue with them about God? Are we willing to invest in someone's life and invite them to meet Jesus Christ?
