Multiply

Beyond the Numbers

November 15, 2015 • Marty Martin

One of the things I say so often is that our way doesn’t work, God’s way does. Psalms 128:1 says, “Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways.” I know this may sound very basic, but the reality is, it is a very profound truth that is relevant to each of us no matter what stage of our walk with God we are in. The key is to stop “doing it my way” and start doing it God’s way.

Principles of Multiplication

God is in the multiplication business. Not only can He make something out of nothing, God can take a little and turn it into a lot. In Luke 9:10-17, God took five tiny loaves of bread and two fishes, multiplied them and fed a crowd of 5000. It is lesson in duplication, one that has application in our lives. Matthew 25:29 tells us, “For the man who uses well what he is given shall be given more, and he shall have abundance. But from the man who is unfaithful, even what little responsibility he has shall be taken from him.”

The Way Out

We all have been in situations where we have wondered if there is a way out of our problem. But no matter what predicament, problem or difficulty you are facing the Lord has a way when there seems to be absolutely no solution in sight. God’s desire is to help us find a way out of our dark place, and in order to get out, we have to figure out how we got there in the first place whether it is financially, morally, or otherwise related. Often, our dark place begins when we believe a lie and become convinced that our lives are about us. When we chase our own happiness through the world’s means, we set ourselves on a path for destruction. And finally we find ourselves in a dark place. But there is always a way out. 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us, “No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.”

God Must Be First

There are so many things that clamor for our attention and devotion: our jobs, our kids, our spouses, our hobbies—the demands and distractions of life. And we have to be careful not to let them become more important or more of a priority than our relationship with God. The key to having God’s “abundant life”—His love, peace and joy—is keeping Him in His rightful place in our priorities. Sometimes it’s good when things don’t add up. It is keeping God first in our lives. When God is in the equation, we can end up with a lot more than we expected. In “Multiply”, we learn what happens when we put God first in our lives.
