Rooted in Relationships Part 2

When it comes to relationships, our family, friends, and neighbors are not the only people who Jesus calls us to love diligently. In Colossians 3:22, Paul challenges us to live as followers of Jesus in our workplace, to love on those who we spend 8+ hours a day with Monday through Friday. But when it comes to the weekly grind, how do we see God in the midst of our work? What does it mean to give our work to God, to "http://...do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men"? (Colossians 3:23)

In the last half of Colossians 3, the Apostle Paul challenges us to live out our new identity in Jesus on a personal, one-on-one level, to live out God's love authentically in each of our relationships. Friend or family, acquaintance or neighbor, we're called to press into the people we know and love around us with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. What does it look like to live those out in our relationships day by day? How do we approach one another with the heart of Jesus?

Rooted in Integrity

When we choose to follow Jesus, we become known by a new identity, one that knows "http://...no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all." (Colossians 3:11) Building our roots in Jesus changes us from the inside out. What does it look like to live that new identity in our culture? How do we walk in integrity to the gospel in our every day lives and reveal the love of Jesus to the people around us?

Underground lies a rich network of roots that allow the trees to stand strong all year long against rain, sleet, snow, hail—and the storms that bring them. Life with Jesus is much the same. Our rootedness and being grounded in Him allows us to stand firm and live tall against even the most raging storms of life. In Paul’s letter to the Colossians, he shows us how to go deep with Jesus so that we can live tall in our world—to live out God’s story in our community.
