It doesn't mean we tune out the suffering and pain but joy is the emotion God wants us to embrace to partner with him in what wants to do in us and through us.

Disgust is an interesting emotion. On one hand, it's something you use to prevent you from being poisoned or ingesting something unpleasant. But when you attach disgust to people or even yourself, it becomes harmful and even destructive. The Scriptures tell us Jesus disregarded rules set up by religious leaders and crossed boundaries to show God's love to people that religion considered disgusting.
