19 But Joseph said to them, "Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? 20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. 21 So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones." Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them. - Genesis 50:19-21

This morning we are in our 7th installment in our study of The Life of Joseph. The narrative in Genesis 45 looks away from Joseph to Josephs dad. This morning we are in our 5th installment in our study of The Life of Joseph. This amazing man comes on the scene in Genesis 37 at the age of 17. He was the youngest of Jacobs 11 sons. We are immediately told that God had given to him 2 dreams. In both of those dreams Josephs entire family is shown bowing before Joseph. Those dreams were radically counter-culture in the fiercely patriarchal society of Josephs world. Children always bowed to their parents, and the younger children always bowed to the older children especially the oldest. Josephs brothers were infuriated by the dreams. His father was insulted by them but he filed them away in his heart and mind. But these dreams were not about a cultural revolution. They were about salvation.

This morning we are in Genesis 39 where we are continuing our study of one of the most important characters in all of Scripture a young man named Joseph. God had planted deep into the heart of Joseph a vision for how he would be a part of God moving forward in His plans to redeem and reconcile fallen mankind to Himself. That plan was wrapped up in the family line of Josephs great grandfather a man named Abraham. That vision burned within his heart; moved him and would sustain Joseph through all of the tremendous adversity Joseph would face.

This morning we are going to take our second walk through THE LIFE OF JOSEPH. The Holy Spirit introduces us to Joseph at the beginning of Genesis 37 Genesis 37:2 Joseph, being seventeen years old He was an extraordinary young man who, unlike his 10 older brothers, had the benefit of being raised by his dad when his dad was more Israel (the man governed by God) than Jacob (the conniver). He was raised by a man who in his old age was limping through life as a result of his epic encounter with the Lord a man with a humble and a broken heart. He was raised by a man who, from the vantage point of age and experience, was able to tell Joseph all about the heartache of half-obedience, the blessing of being governed by God, and the faithfulness of God.
