Believers can develop a mentality of needing to continue to “perform” or keep certain habits to maintain God’s acceptance and favor. Constantly living UNDER His watchful eye, waiting to be punished or rewarded. But that’s not how “GOD WITH US” is meant to operate. If we’ve grown weary of Christianity, if we find most any local church uninspiring, maybe the problem lies not in the Christian faith or these faithful bodies, but in our own disgruntled hearts.
