Esther and Mordecai, secretly Jews, are powerful and comfortable in the Persian empire until Haman is given a place above them. When Mordecai refuses homage to Haman and reveals himself as a Jew, an enraged Haman convinces King Xerxes to decree that all Jews throughout Persia be killed.
