Jonah: The Depth of Grace

Pt.4 - A Critical Transplant

July 26, 2015 • Pastor Cameron Baker • Jonah 4

When its comes to getting angry , how long is your fuse? How long do you usually wait to express anger? In my family I (Cameron Baker) am typically known as the one who doesn't get very angry, fairly even keeled. But this question is a little deceptive because most the time when we ask people: “how long is your fuse?” we're not really asking about the point that they become angry but the point that they explode. If somebody asks you how long is your fuse, they are asking you - how far will you go beyond your initial anger to the point where you rupture and end up acting ungodly in your anger. That's a Heart problem, and that's Jonah's main problem in chapter 4.

Pt.3 - A Great Revival in an Unexpected City

July 19, 2015 • Pastor Segun "Shegz" Aiyegbusi • Jonah 3

While the first two messages have focused inward and have had to do with bringing our heart attitude towards the lost in line with God’s heart, today's message will turn our focus outward. The true mark of a Christian is not just someone who loves God, but someone who is willing to GO and share that message of love with people far from God. That’s where we meet Jonah in today's message. This morning, we’re in chapter 3 and Jonah is still dripping with guts from the fish’s belly.

Pt.2 - How Deep The Father's Love

July 12, 2015 • Pastor Segun "Shegz" Aiyegbusi • Jonah 2

We look back on his account 3 millennia later and say, “Oh, God graciously rescued him by sending the fish to swallow him!” Sure that’s true, but you can be certain that was not the first thought that occurred to Jonah when he saw this mammoth of a sea creature swimming towards him. If he thought he was dead when the seaweeds were choking the life out of him, imagine how much more dead he thought he was when that fish started to swallow him? Jonah WAS NOT expecting to be rescued. Were it not for the compassion and grace of God, that would have been the end of his story!

Pt.1 - When Compassion Came Running

July 5, 2015 • Pastor Segun "Shegz" Aiyegbusi • Jonah 1

The story of Jonah is one of the more popular Bible stories. His very name brings to mind images of a man being swallowed by a large fish. That’s because Jonah was the prophet in the Old Testament who tried to run away from an assignment from God. The book of Jonah however, isn’t about Jonah. It’s about the extreme depths of God’s grace in the life of a rebel. God is so passionate about seeing people far from Him draw near to Him, that He will do whatever it takes to get their attention. And that sometimes calls for a humongous man-swallowing fish!
