Crossing the Jordan - North Oak

October 22, 2023 • Matt Fulmer

Unfortunately, the Israelites never got over their fear and entered the land God wanted to give them. They died, never realizing the answer to their prayer because of fear. But their children had a chance to do it differently, and they did. Under Joshua’s leadership, they did what their parents never could. In part 4, I will talk about the opportunities we will have for the rest of our lives, to live out of fear, to live out of hope that God will be with us as we step out and embrace the changes in our lives. We can navigate life’s changes and even the occasional failures, not because they are easy or painless, but because God is always with us.

The Promise Land - North Oak

When the Israelites finally arrived at the Promised Land (the destination they had been praying for), they were afraid to cross the Jordan River and enter it. In our lives, we often get right up to the cusp of a breakthrough but are afraid to make that final move to realize our dream or step into a new reality. But why would we be scared of getting what we want? Well, there is a difference between praying and hoping for something and then actually having to do it! The fear we experience here is the fear of failure. The Israelites saw the challenges in the new land (tall walls, warrior people, giants) and got scared that they didn’t have what it would take to enter. We too often fear that we are not strong enough, smart enough, prepared enough, or capable enough to make that move into a new reality.
