Charity Clarity

Keep the Change (pt 2)

Generosity is a unique financial strategy. It considers that life is about much more than just our own experience - it considers the needs of others as well. Too often, our willingness to give is tied strictly to what we’ve earned for ourselves. But Christ reminds us that we’ve been given the kingdom, and our generosity should begin with what is in our hearts, not what is in our hands. So whether we have a lot or a little materially, we can all find ways to store up treasure in heaven.

The Bible actually has much to say about money. Maybe it’s not because money is important to God, but perhaps because money is so important to us. This sobering reality wields tremendous influence over how we live, and, therefore, it dictates how we give. Jesus calls us to be generous, and to do so, we must measure our lives against what is most important to Him. In doing so, we discover the opportunity to pursue something beyond just the accumulation of wealth and possessions. We learn to be RICH towards God. - - - Spend Less 2 Give More - https://spendless2givemore.org Connect - https://bit.ly/cumberlandconnectform Bulletin - https://cumberlandchurch.org/bulletin Give - https://cumberlandchurch.org/give App - https://cumberlandchurch.org/app Events - https://cumberlandchurch.org/events Kids Church Online - https://bit.ly/3zgsoqe Weekly Email - https://mailchi.mp/cumberlandchurch.org/weeklyemail Wed Prayer @ Noon - https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86174809279

Too Much or Too Little?

The topic of money can prove to be pretty controversial in a church. Unfortunately, there is an undeniable history of misuse of scripture and manipulation of people concerning money - all in the name of Jesus. Many have completely lost trust in the Church, and understandably so. Even those who want to be generous find it hard to give to an institution that has become increasingly known for its temptation to take from its supporters. Nevertheless, the mission of God remains that His people would be a beacon of charity within a needy world. In fact, the NT has much to say about money, and surprisingly, Jesus himself never shied away from the subject. But, ironically, His teachings about money carry a completely different focus than much of what has become the norm in modern churches. Such thoughts beg the questions: How much should I give - really? Should believers give more, or should the church spend less on ministry? Should ministry be dictated by trends in the economy? Does God *really* care about money - or is that just us?
