God provided us with the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. Christmas celebrates that God drew near to us to do what we cannot do for ourselves: He provided salvation. From the blessing of the Abraham family line comes a baby in a manger, a baby who came to die. A baby who is the Son of God who came to be with us, who drew near to us. THIS IS WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT! This is what our gift giving is about, this is what we celebrate. The comfort and the joy we experience is not in a thing; it is in a person—the person of Jesus Christ who draws near to us.
