In Revelation 9, we have very vivid imagery of a terrifying scene where the spiritual realm invades the physical world. Although this chapter is very vivid, there are some crucial truths we need to learn. The great reformer Martin Luther once said, “The devil is still God’s devil.” Consider this statement in light of Revelation 9.

In Revelation 21:9-22:5, we encounter the Holy City of God: the new Jerusalem. John’s vision describes the new heavens and the new earth, and we want to be able to gaze upon this city and not lose sight of the majesty of it because we are overly obsessed with interpreting its many individual parts. John is being descriptive to help us enlarge our longing and our love for the new heavens and the new earth, and to live now in light of eternity.
