A Cheap Christmas

As we continue our series of "A Cheap Christmas" we look at how Jesus, through his life and sacrifice takes the power of sin and death away and gives us ultimate victory!

We are not cheap

Man was made in the very image of God. As God breathed life into the first man, he was given the high privilege to walk in the presence of the Lord, was crowned with glory and honor and given authority over every living thing. Yet, somehow Adam and Eve didn’t fully appreciate the wealth of their relationship with God. We know this because they traded in God’s goodness for the cheap lies of the serpent. Do you believe the enemy when he tempts you with the same lies: “you can’t believe God or trust His Word? Surely this fruit was meant for eating!”

God is not Cheap

The New Testament describes Christ as “the visible image of the invisible God.” The Christ of God existed before anything else was made “and is supreme over all creation” (see Colossians 1:15). At Christmas we celebrate the coming of Christ into the world, the blessed Son promised through prophets of old. The One given the name, Jesus, was not an afterthought of God—as though God needed a quick backup plan when He saw the downward spiral of man’s sin condition. No, God chose Christ as our ransom “long before the world began” (1 Peter 1:20a). We serve a God who is not cheap but generous, and in total control of all things. God speaks and things get done! Christ our Lord is that very Word of God (the logos) made esh (John 1:1)

A Cheap Christmas

God loves you. You were created in His very image – special, unique, and beautiful – and God called you “very good” (see Genesis 1:31a). Sin has tried to cheapen what God made good, but you are still valuable to the Lord. In fact, you are so precious to God He sent His one and only Son to restore your worth. God came to this earth as a little baby and grew up realizing His assign- ment: to humble Himself to the point of death, taking upon Himself the sin that cheapens and ruins our lives, and rising again in victory over hell’s destruc- tion. This is what Christmas is all about.
